Franky is the cyborg shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates. A wild guy who runs on cola and covered in weapons.

Franky is similar to Nico Robin , since he was first introduced as an opponent of the crew, but would alter join. He was a boss of a gang of delinquents he gathered from around Water 7 and gathered them to form the Franky Family. They were dismantlers who would steal ships to break apart and sell for parts. If the crew were pirates with bounties, they were given up for the money. He’s more often seen wearing wild Hawaiian-style shirts, a small speedo, and sunglasses. A flamboyant character who likes to put his arms together to strike a pose and shout out “SUPER!”. Written on each shoulder is “BF-36”. This stands for Battle Franky, the designation he game to all his home made battle ship.

He’s represented by the color light-blue, and smells of cola. This is because he’s a cyborg character who power source is cola. Since he actually created himself as a cyborg, only the front part of his and his arms are mechanical. The rear half is still flesh and blood. Build within each arm are weapons such as cannon, bean shooters, and his fist become a flail.

Franky is a powerfully built man with a height of at least seven feet, and he is the second tallest member of the Straw Hats. He is a cyborg. His forearms are relatively enormous while his biceps are comparably small. He has brightly-colored blue hair and blue star tattoos on his forearms. His choice of clothing usually comprises of a speedo, which causes people to call him a pervert, and an open loud Hawaiian shirt that has a large golden chain necklace around his neck. He has two Jolly Rogers. The one on the right has been used by Toei Animation, and the one on the left was drawn by Oda in a SBS.

 

BROOK

Dream: To Reunite with Laboon

Brook is the musician of the Strawhat Pirates. He ate the Yomi-Yomi Fruit. When he died his soul returned, but when he found his body. All that was left was skeleton and an afro.

Brook is an extremely tall skeleton dressed in formal attire complete with top hat and cane. At 8′ 8.5″ in height, he is the tallest member of the Straw Hat crew. Despite having no skin, he still has an afro which he says is because his hair has very deep roots. Brook’s style is that of a gentleman consisting of a coat, top hat, pants, and afro which are black while the inner linings of his coat are yellow-orange. The ribbon tied in between his coat and around his neck is blue. The outer covering of Brook’s cane sword which he carries is purple. Also, due to his many years of seclusion his clothes have become somewhat tattered.

Once in the Florian Triangle, the crew was attacked by an enemy using poisoned blades. Those who weren’t dead would soon pass away. They all joined together for one last musical performance and recorded it. They all knew Brook could come back and fulfill their promise to see Laboon. However, Brook’s revived soul got lost in the dense fog of the Florian Triangle. By the time he found his body, it had become a skeleton. Brook sailed alone on his ship through the Florian Triangle for fifty years.

He was once a fighter in the surprise-attack squadron of an unknown kingdom. In addition to his sword skill, Brook’s lightweight skeleton body gives him great speed and the ability to jump extraordinarily high. His body is so light that he is even capable of running on water, however, Brook is still powerless if submerged in water, like all Devil Fruit users. Brook is also an excellent musician, displaying the ability to play any instrument at a highly skilled level.

Brook ate the Revive-Revive Fuit (ヨミヨミの実, Yomi Yomi no Mi). This is a paramecia-type devil fruit that had no real positive effect until he died. This fruit allowed Brook’s soul to return to his body after his death. He really didn’t know the extent of his powers, but he realized the power was in his soul. Though Brook is not immortal, he can’t die as long as his bones aren’t damaged. His body is very literally moved by the power of his soul.

Through his music, he could influence people to sleep or even hallucinate by pressing out his soul. As Brook trained for two years. he discovered that he could project his soul out of his body. He can travel through walls and can go relatively unseen. Brook carries a shikomizue (Japanese cane sword), and is extremely skilled in its use. He can also combine his shikomizue and violin to create sound-based attacks.

USOPP

Dream: Become a Brave Warrior of the Sea

Ussop is the long-nosed sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates. He enjoys telling tall-tales and dreams of becoming a great warrior of the seas. While a member of the Straw Hat crew, every member has a personal Jolly Roger. Usopp’s is marked by his long nose, bandanna, a star, and a slingshot for a cross-bone.

His dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea and to go to Elbath, the land of giants. Usopp serves as the crew’s sniperand is quite good at it. He also has the ability to take high amounts of damage and continue fighting. He is seen to be a good runner which he uses to run away, scared of his enemies. He had an attachment to the crew’s former ship, the Going Merry, which lead to a falling out with the rest of the crew. It was a reminder to him of his friends back on his home island, because it was his friends who had crafted the ship. After his falling out he created an alternate persona to assist them in rescuing Robin when she was captured. Most of the crew saw through the persona but Chopper and Luffy were fooled

TONY TONY CHOPPER

Crew Position: Doctor

Dream: To cure all diseases to change into human form and talk.

Chopper is the doctor and youngest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He is a reindeer that ate the Human-Human Fruit. This allows him to change into human form and talk. Tony Tony Chopper was born a deer on Drum Island in the Grand Line. There as a young blue-nosed deer he was already shunned by the others of his kind. One day, he ate the Human-Human Devil Fruit and was changed so he could stand likea human and even speak. This only made him more of an outcast to other deer and humans treated him as a monster. That was until he met Doctor Hiriluk. the doctor took Chopper into treating him and taught him medical science. After the doctor’s tragic death, he was further trained by Doctor Kureha. Chopper is the second member of the crew to have a devil fruit and the only member to have a Zoan fruit. The Zoan fruit allows him to transform between 3 forms. One form is intellectual which is the form he is in most often. One form is for strength which he often uses in combat. The last form is for speed which he uses when traveling. Chopper also invented a pill called a rumble ball which gives him additional forms that come in handy during combat. The pill only lasts for a short time. If he consumes 3 within a short period of time he will lose control of himself and turn into a rampaging monster. Chopper is the youngest member of the crew and a reindeer. A gag however is that most people confuse him with a tanuki. A second gag is that when people give him a compliment he dances with joy but he yells at them trying to pretend he doesn’t want their compliment. A third gag is when he tries to hide behind walls, putting his eyes behind the wall while the rest of his body remains visible.

NAMI

She is the first member of the Straw Hat Pirates to appear (in the anime), but the third to align herself with the crew, and the fifth to actually join. Possibly one of the best (or even the best) navigators currently sailing the Grand Line, she has the ability to recognize and analyze even the slightest changes in the weather through sheer intuition, thus saving the ship and the crew from the very unstable Grand Line weather on multiple occasions.

Nami has a tattoo on her left shoulder (a homage to her past), where she used to have a shark tattoo for being a member of Arlong’s Crew. The new tattoo represents mikan (a fruit commonly know as tangerine) and pinwheels

She respects Luffy’s qualities as a leader, but often gets angry of his irrational thinking and short attention span, even so she trusts him with her life. Despite the fact that Nami has deceived the crew, Luffy still trusts her enough to allow her to safe-keep his precious straw hat. She is almost always the one who gives orders on the ship (much to the Zoro’s resentment) because of Luffy’s usual lack of common sense. She often comically beats or hits her other crewmates for their nonsense, which occurs quite often. Robin is actually the only person Nami doesn’t try to boss, and she refered to her as the only person who understands her, though in a comical fashion. She is very manipulative as well and can even turn an entire conversation in her favor when necessary, often putting on disguses and tricking the enemy. Acting as the “mother” of the crew, Nami doesn’t understand or approve of the boys’ often macho attitudes and principles. These are the only situations where Nami doesn’t get the final word.

Nami’s two favorite things are money and tangerines. She is greedy and will do anything, aside from abandoning or killing her friends, for money. Due to her past – After having gathered money for 8 years (and even before that often stole things), Nami is naturally accustomed to it, but thinks of her friends as more important. She is very manipulative, and often takes advantage of Sanji for his devotion to her and Usopp to maintain her weapons. Roronoa Zoro tries not to fall for her schemes, but ends up a victim like the rest, usually due to debt and blackmail. Nami also tries to avoid fights, and is one of the less adventurous and brave members of the crew. However, since the invention of her Clima Tact (A weapon that forms weather patterns), she is now seen fighting her own battles instead of becoming the ‘easy target’, as she doesn’t want to be the one being saved anymore.

SANJI

Sanji is the Chef of the Straw Hat Pirates. He’s a chivalrous fighter who loves women to an almost extreme degree. A top of the line chef who will never use his hands in a fight. He is a character who is obsessed with women and worships the females onboard the ship.

Sanji is tall and slender. He is most often formally dressed and wearing a tie. He is a top of the line cook that can make fine cuisine out of almost anything. Sanji is a rather cool personality. Though his love for beautiful women shows a drastically different side of himself. He’s quick to fall love sick for any woman he comes across.

His blond hair is always combed over his left eye and only been seen in rare anime episodes. He’s also sensitive about the spiraled shape of his eyebrow.

RORONOA ZORO

Crew Position: First Mate

Roronoa Zoro is a sword fighter once known as the Pirate Hunter who joins the Straw Hat Pirates as first-mate and aims to become the world’s greatest swordsman to fulfill a childhood promise with his special three-sword style, Santoryu.

Zoro is a proponent of a self-created style called the Santouryu or the three sword style. With the Santouryu, Roronoa simultaneously uses three swords (one in each hand and one in his mouth) when fighting an opponent. Initially, Zoro started using two swords back when he was still a kid but after Kuina’s death and after having the Wadō Ichimonji passed on to him, he developed his three sword style. Although having the three sword style, Zoro also uses the Nitōryū or the two sword style and the Ittōryū or one sword style. Zoro is adept at using any of his styles, whether Ittōryū, Nitōryū or Santouryu.

Zoro’s agility, speed, and overall reflexes are also extraordinary; in numerous occasions, Zoro has shown being able to evade (or block) high-speed attacks and projectiles that would normally be impossible for an average human to perceive, much less intercept. He also has unreal strength, as seen in the fight against Mr. 1 where he literally throws a building at his opponent.

Eventually Zoro learns to hone the focus of his blade to cut through virtually any high density alloy such as steel. This ability only manifests after he comprehends the presence or “breath” of all things in nature. By controlling the intent of his blade to either kill or protect he can then determine what he ends up damaging. At first he can only achieve this focus with the single sword Lion’s Song stance but he later improves the technique to handle nine simultaneous slashes in his Ashurastance.

Through extreme physical and mental conditioning Zoro is able to make his sword slashes to fly through the air like projectiles. The underlying idea is that his muscle mass allows his blades to strike the air with such force that the attack pushes the wind into a cutting force. He begins mastering this technique in the Skypiea arc.

Zoro, being a swordsman, is always seen with three katanas at his side. Zoro has changed his swords throughout the series save for one: the Wadō Ichimonji. Zoro owns two of the 21 Great Edges and excellent grade sword as his weapons

A common mistranslation to Zoro’s swords is to add the word Meitou to the front of the names. Meitou is not a name, but shows a status of the blade. It shows that there is a history or tale behind the history of the sword. During his current adventures he uses the following swords:

1. Wadō Ichimonji (Kuina’s sword which had been passed down to Zoro)
2. Sandai Kitetsu (Supposedly a 3rd generation cursed sword)
3. Shuusui (Legendary sword gained from the zombie samurai Ryuuma)For one reason or another, Zoro has one or more of his swords destroyed or incapacitated in some way
   1. Yubashiri(destroyed on Enies Lobby by Shuu during the Buster Calll and now resting on Thriller Bark)
   2. Katana x2 (destroyed by Mihawk)
