ENEL – Hair, tomoe and Eminem

D: Is that thing on the Almighty God Enel-san’s head a rubber swimming cap?

O:yes. That’s it. (lazy explanation) Oh, no wait. There’s no rubber on the Sky Islands. So… it’s made of cloth. (mega-lazy explanation)

In one SBS Oda drew haw Enel would look like without his cap

Enel is the first major antagonist to use Haki. He is also the first major antagonist in the series that is not a pirate or a Marine

Enel is also the name of the main Italian electric company

The symbols seen on Enel’s drums are called tomoe and are very common in Japanese heraldry such as family emblems and corporate logos. The tomoe are also present on another One Piece character,Sentomaru

Sentomaru_Anime_Post_Timeskip_Infobox

A tomoe (巴 or 鞆絵, ともえ) and tomowe (ともゑ) in its archaic form, is a Japanese abstract shape described as a swirl that resembles a comma or the usual form of a magatama. The origin of tomoe is uncertain. Some think that it originally meant tomoe (鞆絵), or drawings on tomo (), a round arm protector used by an archer, whereas others see tomoe as stylized magatama. It is a common design element in Japanese family emblems (家紋 kamon) and corporate logos, particularly in triplicate whorls known asmitsudomoe (三つ巴). Some view the mitsudomoe as representative of the threefold division (Man, Earth, and Sky) at the heart of the Shinto religion. Originally, it was associated with the Shinto war deity Hachiman, and through that was adopted by the samurai as their traditional symbol. One mitsudomoe variant, the Hidari Gomon, is the traditional symbol of the Ryūkyū Kingdom. The Koyasan Shingon sect of Buddhism uses the Hidari Gomon as a visual representation of the cycle of life.

      Enel’s Attacks – Origin

D: Hello, Oda-sensei. I have serious suspicions, so forgive me if I pose a serious question. It’s about the names of Enel’s special attacks. It seems to me like many originate from the names of Scandinavian gods and Indian spirits. Can you please tell us what they all came from originally?

O: Yes. Well. The names came from a variety of sources. I can’t tell you a whole lot of in-depth information, but in general it’s pretty simple.

      • “El Thor” → Thor → God of War and Lightning in Norse mythology

      • “Hino” → Hino → Giant Lightning Bird of the Iroquois natives of North America
      • “Kiten” → Kiten → Japanese lightning beast
      • “Julungul” → Jagtjadbulla → One of the Lightning Brothers in Arnhem Land (N. Australia) rock art
      • “Mamaragan” → Mamaragan → Lightning God of Central Australia
      • “Amal” → Amaru → A play on “amoru/amakudaru”, which means “to descend from heaven”. Japanese lightning-fall
      • “Kari” → Kari → Lightning God of Malay pygmy tribes

That should cover it. Also, “Volley” came from the sound of lightning “vari vari”. So it was pretty much random. Didn’t come from any existing language.

        Skypea and Indonesia

The pants Enel has Batik motifs. Batik is a dyeing technique that originated from Indonesia.

Enel’s ear length, ear-like Buddha. It’s similar to ears of Dayak tribes.  Those tribes also wear white hats.

Tingang Bird or family hornbills (Bucerotidae / Hornbill) known by the indigenous Dayak tribe in Kalimantan, especially as a bird that has the elegance and beauty. This bird was the inspiration of some movement or dance the name of the Dayak people in Borneo. It looks like the Southbird.

Anaconda is actually quite identical with the Amazon Forest, and even famous movie ‘Anaconda’. But when i saw Nora (anaconda) swell due to ‘live hundreds of years and are in areas with lower gravity,’ I think this story is more similar to the story sequel anacondas ‘Hunt of the Blood Orchid’? There Anaconda enlarged because it can live hundreds of years after eating the Blood Orchid. And do not forget the film’s setting is the island of Borneo, Indonesia! Legend and fact about this giant snake has always been there in the East Kalimantan Dayak tribe. They believe it as a dragon because they are ‘they say’ see it has a horn.

Jaya, the island with the shape of the skull. is not such thing as too similar to Irian Jaya? Irian Jaya is a province on the island of Papua, Indonesia, with a shape like a bird. Could the idea that Oda’s story inspired skull-shaped island is split in two? Never forget that the island of Irian now split in two, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Guinea alone form an image similar to a bird, with the eastern part of the body section, and the western part of his head, therefore this section is often referred to as the Bird’s Head (vogelkoop / birdhead). Probably nothing, but who can guarantee?

        2

Norland told to King Lyneel on a ‘Mountain Gold’ found on the island of Jaya. After they returned to it turns out that gold has disappeared. coincidence or not, in the history of Irian Jaya, Indonesia rather have a mountain of gold as the world’s Largest Gold Mine, Mount Ersberg. The mountain is abundant gold, even before the gold can be found on the surface of the soil without digging. Historically (until now) is controlled by the Freeport mine from the United States. There is even the term “United States” was built by gold Papua. In the story, the tribe Shandia Gold is also exploited by Enel to build the Maxim.

Indonesian dictionary (2001) defines as the wording that had elements of poetry (such as rhyme and rhythm) are considered to contain magical powers, usually uttered by the shaman or handler to compete with other supernatural powers. In English ‘mantra’ means ‘Magic Formula’, ‘spell’ or ‘incantation’. Mantra is used only in Indonesian.

O: Hey!! You, sit right there!! Now listen!! Everyone lives in circles!! The sun, the moon, and the earth all spin around!! And!! If the earth suddenly stopped spinning!! It would be a disaster, tidal waves everywhere!! Now remember that Sanji’s eyebrow channels that circular energy!! Reflect upon this!! You may go!!

            Ace’s Tattoo

The reason behind Ace’s tattoo is the symbol of Sabo’s flag and Sabo’s letter.

              Why Luffy doesn’t kill anyone

As we know, Luffy hasn’t killed anyone, yet.

Oda explained why all Luffy’s former enemies are still alive :

D: Why doesn’t Luffy ever kill his enemies? If you look back, he didn’t kill Mohji, he didn’t kill Helmeppo or Captain Morgan, or anyone. Well, Zoro was the one who beat Morgan, but still. Why?

              3553034-621452-monkey_d_luffy_after_timeskip__paint__by_twin_gamer_d4ez19r

O: Ahh, good question. First of all, Morgan is still alive. He’s being held in prison now by his former subordinates. So why didn’t Luffy kill him? In this era, people put their lives on their beliefs and convictions, and fight. When he goes into battle, Luffy is destroying others’ beliefs. And when these enemies’ beliefs are shattered and defeated, they feel a pain equal to death. I think that for these pirates, killing or not killing is secondary to winning or losing.

                Whitebeard’s wounds

Throughout the Battle of Marineford, Whitebeard received 267 sword wounds, 152 gunshot wounds and 46 wounds from cannonballs — adding up to a total of 465 injuries at the time of death. Despite this, there was not a single scar on Whitebeard’s back showing cowardice.

In manga, Whitebeard lost half of his face in the fight, but that wasn’t so in the anime.

                  Gol D. Roger Trivia

Roger is the first character to be shown with the D in his name; however, he is the second to be named. Dr. Kureha revealed that his true name was Gol D. Roger well after his initial introduction. This is also the first indication that there is an underlying mystery and something special in those who carry the initial D, and Roger himself admits to Whitebeard that the D has a greater meaning than a simple initial.

During Shanks’ flashback back to Roger’s death and the day he last saw Buggy, rain can be seen falling down on the town at that moment. This is echoed by Luffy’s departure from Loguetown, as it also rained during his escape.

It was stated that Ace’s mother held him for 20 months (5 months before and 15 months after Roger’s execution). Since Ace’s birthday is January 1, Roger must have been executed sometime between late September and early October.

Roger was the first named character shown in the One Piece series and the first person in general in the manga.

In Episode 85 of the anime, when Hiluluk was describing what a pirate is to Chopper, a man who was identical in appearance to Roger was seen.

                  85

When Oars was pretending to be a pirate by placing a piece of rubble on his head, a pirate similar to Roger was also shown.

Upon his death, the real life pirate Olivier Levasseur had tossed a cryptogram from the scaffolding into the crowd and told them if they could figure out the message, his treasure (now valued at £160,000,000 in today’s money) would be theirs, a treasure that to this day has never been found. This seems to have been part of the inspiration for Roger’s legendary death speech, as Roger himself had delivered the message to find his treasure, and notably the poneglyphs are also part of a grand cryptogram leading to the end of the Grand Line.

Roger is the first known owner of the straw hat that Luffy (and previously Shanks) wears.

In One Piece Green it was revealed that Roger’s mustache was actually nose hair (although this is probably a joke).

He is the first character shown in the Anime due to being in the opening.

                    ACE: Anime and Manga Differences

                    Alabasta Arc

When Ace first meets Luffy’s crew, he tosses them a piece of paper and leaves. However, in the anime, his time with the Straw Hats was extended and he journeys with them for a while. During the journey though, Ace’s bead necklace kept appearing and disappearing in-between scene changes, most likely due to mistakes from the animators.

                    Mera Mera no Mi

In the manga, it is unknown if Ace can light things on fire from a distance without spouting flames that make direct contact. However, in the anime, he is shown lighting a cigarette for Sanji simply by pointing his finger.

                    Ambition

During his meeting with Shanks in the anime, Ace stated that he would become the Pirate King. At no point in the manga did Ace show this ambition, but rather he aims to make Whitebeard the Pirate King. Also in the anime, Ace stated that he wanted to show the world his power by taking Whitebeard’s head. Ace’s reason for going after Whitebeard’s head was never explained in the manga.

                    Marineford Arc

In the anime, the Ace’s and Luffy’s fight against the Marines (after Luffy unlocked his handcuffs) was expanded and Ace showed more of his attacks.

In the anime, when Ace was struck through by Akainu, his beaded necklace broke apart and fell all over the ground, and one bead ended up rolling to Whitebeard’s foot, who picked it up tearfully; in the manga, the necklace remained intact. Ace also was covered in less blood than in the manga, and the smoke coming from his wound was absent. Other oddities include most of the artwork being largely uninspired by the manga.

Ace’s chin covered blood in the manga.

Ace’s chin showing only thin streaks of blood in the anime version.

Ace’s death in the manga, which shows more blood and his wound still smoldering.

Ace’s death in the anime that hardly shows any blood at all.

The following episode, however, increases the amount of blood.

In the anime, Ace’s beaded necklace was destroyed moments before his death.

In the manga and the special episode3D2Y, his necklace is still intact.
