WHY THE ‘NATIONAL TREASURE’ ISN’T THE ANCIENT WEAPON URANUS

The Battle of Edd War was 27 years ago.

Roger was executed 24 years ago. Three years difference.

Doflamingo is 41 years old.

41 – 24 = 17

Doflamingo was around 17 when he witnessed Roger’s execution:

Doflamingo was 10 when he gained knowledge of the National Treasure and escaped from Mariejois.

At the time of the Battle of Edd War, he was around 14 (17 – 3).

Shiki claimed that Roger knew the location of the Ancient Weapon, but hadn’t said which one.

Roger doesn’t deny this and “I have no desire to rule, Shiki!” as well as “You can pressure me all you want,” implies that he can access it, because he rejects Shiki’s offer to use it to conquer the world.
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Edd_War

Shiki was informed that Roger knew the location of one Ancient Weapon.
I believe that this Ancient Weapon was the Uranus.

Let me explain why this Ancient Weapon was the Uranus, instead of the Pluton or the Poseidon, through deduction:

– If Roger knew about the Pluton in Alabasta, then why didn’t Cobra mention Roger in the Tomb of the Kings?
Why did Cobra not have a saddened/noticeable expression when he read that Roger was executed?
Instead, he was more worried about the ‘terrible age’ that would begin.

Sure, Roger could’ve used the “voice of all things” to find and gain passage underneath the Tomb, and then used the same ability to learn the location of the Pluton from the poneglyph inside.

The Tomb Of The Kings

But this is highly unlikely and very far-fetched because he wouldn’t have known the secret entrance to the underground of the Tomb to start with; we also don’t know much about his VOAT ability – how he used it and such.

Robin Examining The Pluton Poneglpyh

  • If he read the blueprints of the ‘Second Pluton’, then he didn’t know the ‘location‘ of the Pluton, but the design of it from the blueprints.
Furthermore, it’s been hinted many times that the Pluton in Alabasta will be found and awakened by a group with bad intentions (WGor Blackbeard?), prompting the use of the ‘Second Pluton’ to counter it.
So Roger did not have a newly-created ‘Second Pluton’, as there was no need to build it at that time, so he couldn’t have known the ‘location‘ of it.

The Pluton’s Blueprint

This is all still debatable as Tom didn’t let just anyone examine it; but then again, Roger had befriended him, with Tom having built the Oro Jackson for him.
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Gol_D._Roger

Thus it’s fair to say that Roger didn’t know the exact location of either of the Plutons.

– Roger probably knew the general location of the Poseidon from the poneglyph in Shandora, but he possibly knew that he couldn’t find it since it hadn’t been born yet, and thus he didn’t know the exact location of it, therefore I doubt it was this Ancient Weapon.

Roger’s Inscription Besides The Poneglyph

Perhaps when he went to Fishman Island he realised that the Poseidon wasn’t anywhere to be found.

The Oro Jackson Under The Ocean

Remember when Rayleigh said that “perhaps we […] were too impatient“.
It possibly meant that they were too early, one of the reasons being because:

The Battle of Edd War was 27 years ago.
Roger died 24 years ago.
Shirahoshi was born 16 years ago.

It’s impossible for Roger to have found the Poseidon – he was going to die from his disease soon and the Poseidon would be born 11 years later after the Battle of Edd War; he left this job to a pirate with his will (Luffy) who would be around when the Poseidon would.

Princess Shirahoshi: Poseidon

This leaves the Uranus.

People theorise that it’s the mysterious egg on Roger’s ship, which I strongly disagree with, and I’ll post all of the reasons why on another thread next time – there’s an interesting theory I have. It links with a Ghibli film.

The Egg On The Oro Jackson In The Episode

The Egg On The Oro Jackson In The Manga

For a start, Shiki and Roger spoke as if the latter knew the ‘location‘ of it, not as if he actually had it with him – the red-polka-dotted eggwas with Roger on the Oro Jackson, so it can’t be the Uranus.

But then again there were different translations – some say he found it, but most say that he knew the location. So we’ll go with the latter.

The Egg On The Oro Jackson In The Merchandise

People theorise that it’s the National Treasure located within Mariejois, which I also disagree with.
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Mariejois

Considering that Roger had the location and (implied) access to the Uranus when Doflamingo was around 14, while he was still blackmailing the Celestial Dragons with the National Treasure, how could the Uranus be the National Treasure?

Roger and Shiki spoke as if the former could access it any time – wouldn’t that be difficult if the Uranus was in Mariejois?

Doflamingo informed the readers about the National Treasure at the age of 41, saying that he still used the knowledge of the NT to blackmail the CD, the WG and their affiliates.

Doflamingo’s Trump Card

So 41 – 10 = 31 –> for 31 years Doflamingo had been blackmailing the Celestial Dragons, even while the Battle of Edd War was raging, so the National Treasure is still within Mariejois.

If the National Treasure had to be something, it’d have to be something that they themselves created or stole long ago – what it could be:

  • Something, possibly a weapon, that the 19/20 Kings used to help them defeat the Ancient Kingdom, thus why it’s heralded by Doflamingoas the “national treasure” (implying that the Celestial Dragons do so too and thus take pride in it since it helped them defeat the AK)

Don’t trust me on this though, this is only a wild guess. I’m clueless.[A key to the Uranus? I disagree because there are no keys to activate Poseidon.] [Sure, the description that Doflamingo gives of the National Treasure reminds us of the description of the Ancient Weapons, but that still doesn’t prove anything except that all of these things share being able to ‘shake the public world’ in common.] [Before arguing that “After Roger died, the World Government took control of the Uranus from Roger, and that became the National Treasure.” notice that it’s obvious from this thread that the Celestial Dragons had the National Treasure long before the Battle of Edd War, asDoflamingo was 10 when he gained knowledge of it and the Battle of Edd War was when he was around 14.]

To conclude:

  • Roger had (implied) access to the Ancient Weapon, most likely Uranus, back when Doflamingo was still blackmailing the Celestial Dragons with the knowledge of the National Treasure hidden in Mariejois, and thus this proves that the Uranus and the National Treasure are two different things.
  • I believe that the egg on Roger’s ship wasn’t the Uranus either, as Roger supposedly only knew the location of it – like I said, I’ll expand on this in another thread later.

      Doflamingo’s blind left eye Theory

Since the beginning of the Dressrosa arc, everyone has noticed that Doflamingo’s never takes off his glasses. In fact, we have never seen him without them, even in flashbacks as a young pirate or as a child, he always wore glasses. Because of this, a lot of questions and gags have popped up considering his eyes, what they look like etc.

But, what came to my mind is that he’s wearing them to cover up something, namely, that he’s blind in one eye.

If we look at his Jolly Roger, we can see that there’s a line across it’s left eye. Jolly Rogers usually represents the captain (Shanks’ Jolly Roger shows the scar his has around his eye) and we’ve seen Doflamingo’s sinister smile, so what about his eye?

      Doflamingo_Jolly_Roger-1-

Also, we have seen him wear glasses as a child, but that may have been just for fashion. After his father abandoned that title of a Celestial Dragon, they were attacked by the citizen. They were tied up with rope and their eyes were covered. There were tortured by people who wanted revenge. People wanted them to suffer. There was a man who said that he was blinded by the Celestial Dragons. Because of that, I believe that the citizen tried to blind Doflamingo (that would explain why their eyes were covered) and that he is blind in his left eye since then.

      One-Piece-764-Young-Doflamingo

Since he is blind in his left eye, he wore glasses to cover it up. He became a pirate and if someone knew about his eye, they would use it to their benefit, like attacking from his blind side.

Another piece of evidence are attacks that were launched against Doflamingo. When he was fighting Sanji, Sanji attacked him and the attack came from the left side. Doflamingo turns 180° to block Sanji and struggles a little which is strange because Doflamingo is a lot stronger than Sanji.

      maxresdefault

When fighting Luffy, Luffy’s Red Hawk came from the left side too.

      0759-015

Also, Law’s attack Gamma Knife came from the left side as well.

      op781-1

He should have been able to avoid or at least block these attacks, but if he’s really blind in his left eye, that would explain why he didn’t.

Also, some will say that he can’t be blind because we saw one of his eyes, but we only saw his right eye and not his left eye.

      Doflamingo's_Post-Traumatic_Stress_Disorder

He may even have a scar on his left eye and maybe because of that Corazon draw something on his right eye, in order for his brother to not be the only one.

                DONQUIXOTE DOFLAMINGO=EMPEROR COMMODUS?

This theory is based on the possibility that the character Donquixote Doflamingo was inspired by/based on the ancient Roman Emperor Commodus. This can perhaps shed some light on Doflamingo’s character in the near future, or just make for an interesting comparison (I hope :lmao:). There are parallels between Dressrossa and Ancient Rome too that can perhaps explain why Commodus may have been an inspiration for Doffy, but I placed that section at the very end. I will try my best to condense/expand it in the coming few days, any suggestions would be much appreciated!

                Commodus & Doflamingo

Emperor Commodus was notorious for his behaviour and government decisions. Ancient Roman historians credit him for transforming Rome “from a kingdom of gold to one of iron and rust” (Cassius Dio).

Similarly Doflamingo’s rise to power in Dressrosa brought about a lot of tragedy. Commodus, unlike most of his predecessors was born into the imperial family, the son of Marcus Aurelius, he viewed the throne as his birthright and did not bother to justify his actions. Sounds familiar?

Like Doflamingo being a Celestial Dragon and not understanding why he should be deprived of his birthright. Similarly Marcus Aurelius was known for his humanity, a bit like Donquixote Homing. Commodus was unpopular with the ruling elite (Donquixote and Riku family) but was very popular with the Army and the common people (in large part thanks to his elaborate gladiatorial games).

Commodus had a twin brother who died in his youth and numerous sisters. He executed both of his brother-in-laws, cousin for conspiring against him and there are rumours that he killed his father (this rumour was adopted into the movie “The Gladiator”). Thus like Doflamingo, he committed patricide and to a certain extent, fratricide as well.

Early on in his life Commodus was supposedly led astray by his companions and “through them that he at first, out of ignorance, missed the better life and then was led on into lustful and cruel habits, which soon became second nature.” (Cassius Dio). This is similar to how Trebol gifted Doffy the gun who then used to kill his own father and of course his younger brother (not sure if the gun was the same).

Commodus suffered from megalomania, strongly believing in his own god-like status, physical strength and superiority to everyone else. He possessed immense physical strength and often participated in the gladiatorial fights and hunts he staged for the people. It was more of a sport for him. Something we see in Doflamingo who takes on hits like nobody’s business, mostly fearless, immensely strong as well. Similarly the people closest to Commodus attempted to assassinate him, most notably his sisters and his mistress. The people closest to Doflamingo attempt to do the same, Rocinante, Baby 5, Law. Other assassination plots failed too, as Commodus survives and seeks revenge. Similar to how Doflamingo survives the murder attempt(s) from Mariejois and seeks vengeance on the Celestial Dragons.
In the end, Commodus is strangled by his wrestling partner and after his death he is declared as a public enemy by the government who destroy all his statues.

What could this mean for Doflamingo?

I think Doflamingo will probably not end up in Impel Down, he will either be killed on the way there (CP0? Kaido?Blackbeard?) or somehow escapes before his arrival there and will meet his end elsewhere in the New World.
His death would cause chaos in the underground network and will end an era of the stable rule of the Yonkos. Just how Commodus’ death marked the end of an entire dynasty. I added Blackbeard as one of the potential killers because we all know how he likes to take advantage of someone’s weakened position and is on the hunt for powerful devil fruits and he String-String fruit is definitely an unusual one.

It will act as a trigger for supernovas to take action (as some of them have begun already) against the Yonkou and WG. A war between various pirate factions will be a possibility too. A point of no return of sorts for the “old powers” in the New World, the beginning of their decline. Just how Commodus’ reign and death was said to begin the end of the Roman Empire.

                Dressrosa & Ancient Rome

I know most people say that Dressrosa is meant to be Spain, but to me it seemed encompass a general Mediterranean theme and Spain was part of the Roman empire and thus still has various monuments in the Greco-Roman style. The vibrant colours, climate, passion (regional stereotype) architectural elements and so on reflect that pretty well.
But the moment I saw the aerial view of Dressrosa it really reminded me of the models of ancient Rome.

Corrida Colosseum is a given of course, it even ends up mimicking the damage of the real Colosseum after Pica goes berserk. Interestingly, the real Colosseum was damaged by an earthquake (earth damage/shifts parallels Pica’s power in a way).

The underground part of Corrida Colosseum with all its corridors and cages is inspired by the underground network of its real-life counterpart and both can get filled with water.

But the Corrida Colosseum in Dressrosa is a perfect example of the classic Roman political tool: Bread and Games. A tool used by every self-respecting, ambitious Roman politician since way back when. Similarly Doflamingo, keeps the people in Dressrosa happy with grand architecture and spectacles on the arena, distracting them from the dark side of the reality. Perhaps it is not a coincidence for this arc to have so many parallels with ancient Roman history and some of its historical figures. That’s about it. Let me know your thoughts and thank you for reading it! :>

One Piece AMV – Who is in Control?

Words from editor: Was inspired to make this video after I heard this song. I wanted to show some of the darker atmospheric moments in the show. Most people think that One Piece is childish, but wheeeew boy are they wrong. It gets dark. Doflamingo’s backstory is pretty fucking rough man. He’s a great villain.
