So for this theory, i am basically theorizing what the meaning is of Zoro’s eye. Oda puts meaning into almost all of his series, with numerous references to other works of art and real life; so it is not far fetched(imho, it’s actually very likely) that there was a reason why Oda decided to give Zoro one eye

Anyways i believe that Zoro represents Buddha/Buddhism

This can be seen as many of Zoro’s moves reference Buddhism, here are just a few

• Asura
• Crossing of 6 Paths
• Yasha Garasu
• Daibutsu Giri
• Sanzen Sekai

Furthermore Mihawk seems to have a Christian theme, so it would make sense if Zoro has a Buddhist theme

Lastly Zoro’s wado ichimonji translates to “straight path to the harmony” which could relate to Buddhism

So if Zoro has a link with Buddhism, then what his eye mean?

Well one of the goals of a Buddhist is to reach enlightenment. Here are some synonyms for enlightenment

• teaching
• understanding

• wisdom

• knowledge

Now here are the symbolic meaning of eyes

• Focus
• Clarity
• Vision
• Prophesy
• Omniscience
• Presence
• Intelligence
• Perception
• Observation
• Opening
• Awareness

I think that these could possibly be connected, with eyes being used to symbolized enlightenment.

So if that was true, then it would mean that with Zoro having one eye; he would be half enlightened. this means Zoro is “half way there” in regards to becoming enlightened

So when will Zoro become enlightened?

Well i think Zoro will be “enlightened” when he becomes the world’s greatest swordsman in the near end of series. By then Zoro would have lost his desires, as he would have already accomplished his goal so it would make sense for Zoro to reach some sort of enlightened state at the end of series.

So to sum it all up, here are my thoughts

• Zoro has connections with Buddhism
• Zoro’s eye relates to him being enlightened, so one eye means he’s half enlightened
• Zoro will become fully enlightened at the end of series
