    KAIDO: THE MYTHICAL MONSTER

Now before I begin, I’d first like to draw your attention towards Kaido’s introduction.
    Look at Killer’s words. Next:-
[IMG]The key points I want to highlight here is, he was captured 18 times, defeated 7 times and tortured again and again. And for the last image:-
[IMG]The narrator’s words that one on one he is unbeatable and more importantly the words “Amongst all things that live on the land, in the sea or in the air”. This is going to be an essential part of my evidences.

    Arguments For and Against:
Now to first establish whether Kaido has a devil fruit or not:-

We all know about Kaido’s suicidal tendencies. He wants to die and has tried tons and loads of stuff. We also know that a Devil Fruit eater’s inherent weakness is sea water and sea stone. So wouldn’t it just be easiest for him to drown in sea water and commit suicide?
So people say he is not a devil fruit eater.

I will refute this basic argument with a rational statement:-
He so desperately wants to die. Even if he wasn’t a devil fruit eater, he can still drown by stopping his breath in water. Any creature or being can die that way. Another way is to simply go so deep in water that the water pressure crushes his body and organs as we saw in Sanji’s fight against Kuroobi in Arlong Park arc.

SO WHY ISN’T HE DEAD? WHAT EXACTLY IS KAIDO?

I say he is a Devil Fruit eater.
-Then why won’t he die in sea water?
-He has been captured 18 times, and had execution orders passed against him. If he is restrained in Kairoseki (sea stone), can’t he be easily killed? Doesn’t that weaken him?

The reason for this is simple:-
Refer the Third Image I posted in introduction section. He is “The strongest ‘creature’ among all in the air, land or ‘sea’!

First he is a creature and what if he can survive in the sea? If that’s true then he is immune to sea water and in turn sea stone which is why he can’t die like a normal devil fruit eater.
Still doesn’t make sense as to how there can be a devil fruit eater without this inherent weakness?

    Let me explain:-
    – There are many creatures that can survive in the sea like fish or reptiles or any marine species. What if he possessed a zoan fruit like one of these? Zoan devil fruits are the only ones which grant you powers of creatures and hence if he a zoan sea creature, he can survive in sea water and sea stone and basically loses the inherent weakness.

Kaido is a power hungry yonko who craves war for excitement as seen in the images above. If a Zoan devil fruit granted him such immense power, doesn’t that also explain his obsession to create a zoan devil fruit army.

SMILES are artificial zoans and while I believe they have more weaknesses and are less stronger than natural zoans. This does explain Kaido’s obsession with zoan devil fruits.

Now what zoan type is Kaido. He definitely isn’t a normal zoan with such abilities and neither is he an ancient zoan. He is a mythical zoan. Which fruit I feel he has, I’ll come to that later. To prove this I can give some more examples and evidence:-

    1) Jack the mammoth:-
He is 1 of Kaido’s 3 main right hand men known as 1 of the three calamities. He has the ancient zoan Mammoth fruit. Wouldn’t it be fitting if the three calamities were ancient zoans while their boss was a mythical zoan. I have tried to reason Kaido’s fearsome power and indestructible body and will delve more in detail later. Besides this is what Nekomamushi had to say about Jack:-
    [IMG]

If ancient zoans are so rare, mythical zoans become the rarest class of fruits which is fitting for a Yonko ruler like Kaido.

    2) X Drake:-
    [IMG]

Wasn’t Kaido supposed to take out X-Drake? Yet X Drake became his subordinate and a pretty high standing one it may seem as he issued the note to Kaido of Doffy’s defeat. This also makes sense since he is a rare ancient zoan which makes him very impressive and appealing to Kaido and his zoan fruit obsession.

    3)Marco and Sengoku:-
These are the 2 mythical zoans shown in the series before. We have just seen glimpses of their abilities but their abilities were indeed very unique for example, Sengoku’s shock waves or Marco just turning part of his body parts into blue flames of the pheonix. Mythical zoans are very mysterious which is why it makes sense for Kaido to be a mythical zoan considering the hype.

So let us believe that he is a mythical zoan for now but then which type?

    Mythical Zoan:- Dragon
Let me explain why Dragon. In the past 10 days I was constantly reading about mythical creatures from various mythologies for atleast half an hour everyday. I’ve read about over 100 mythical creatures but just 1 ticked all the boxes. I’ll explain this in detail in 3 categories, 3 A’s basically with references mainly from Chinese and Japanese mythologies:-

    1) Appearance:-
At first look, Kaido looks a slight bit similar to Oars Jr. and Oars in appearance with his horns and massive frame. However I feel it to be more like Marco’s pheonix transformation. Kaido has maintained an appearance where he looks like he is a part human giant and partly a mixture of animals with his skin and horns. He is called by Law as ‘Hyakuju no Kaido’ which literally translates to Hundred beasts. However a liberal interpretation of the term Hyakuju also means ‘All of the beasts’. Now what does this have to do with him being a dragon.

Quoting the Mythology Dictionary website on the definition of dragon in both Chinese and Japanese cultures:-

As you can read, the Chinese and Japanese cultures are filled with various descriptions of various types of Dragons and while I can’t present many, I will share a few examples. Before that, from the above it is clear that Dragon’s have traits of many various animals. You can read the words having 2 horns, body or skin of some other animal, clawed legs and stuff which satisfies the definition of the word “Hyakuju” given to Kaido. This explains his apperance in the 1st image of the thread to be a part transformation into mythical zoan. Also the indestructible skin can be attributed as being another animal’s common trait with a dragon.

    2) Abilities:-
Coming to the crux of the theory, his abilities as a mythican zoan. Again quoting the Mythology Dictionary:-

-As you can see in both Chinese and Japanese mythologies, a Dragon is a creature which can live in the seas or oceans, the skies as well as on land. This explains the main part of the theory about Kaido being ‘immune to sea water and sea stone’. Also it can serve as an explanation as to how Kaido reached Sky island alone as he could have probably been able to fly being a dragon.

-Additionally, these Dragons are considered Kings in Chinese culture and Rulers/guardians in Japanese culture. Again something which fits the bit for a Yonko who is also a ruler/emperor of the seas.

-This also explains the Narrator’s words as The Strongest Creature on Sea,Air or Land.

    3) Additional reasonings:-
While some dragons were considered Celestial beings and guardians, some were considered feared monsters. Hence the title of my theory Kaido the mythical ‘monster’. We’ve seen his traits to be merciless and he is extremelt fearsome. To give examples as promised:-

    1) The Kiau Dragon was a Swamp dragon who troubled the fishermen in nearby area in China. He could live in the water of swamps or on mountains and villages. He was worshipped as well as feared.

    2) Li, Dragon of the seas, in Chinese culture was a Dragon King and a ruler of the seas. Again worshipped and feared.

Now in reference to Wano and Momonosuke. Though this seems baseless, Momonosuke is probably being hunted because he maybe a future Shogun but his SMILE was a dragon SMILE too.
In Wano, Ryuuma was a hero because he slayed dragons and we saw in Punk Hazard, Kinemon’s disgust at the dragon.

Escaping Kaido’s goons and Doflamingo, having a personal vendetta against a Dragon. These seemed to be tied to the fact that Kaido is a dragon. Tying up lose ends, it is possible Kaido raided Wano for Momo and probably caused a lot of destruction which is why we found Kinemon and Kanjuro running and hiding to protect Momo. It also expressed the fear Kinemon and Momo showed at the mention of Kaido.

This shows that Kaido is both respected and feared. Just like the Dragons in Chinese and Japanese mythology. Even Doflamingo feared Kaido more than a Navy admiral who themselves are one of the most formidable forces.

Final piece of the puzzle:- Gecko Moriah
Moriah’s crew was slaughtered by Kaido and Moriah mentioned in Thriller Bark that if he had Luffy’s shadow in Oars’ body earlier, he would have defeated Kaido. Correlate this with kaido’s own half Dragon appearance being similar to that of Oars along with the fact that Oars Jr. met Ace in Wano. All these things maybe inter related.

Also Hogback stole the Dragon slayer Ryuuma’s body and also his meito Shusui. Moriah’s biggest objective was revenge on Kaido and what else could one think of than slaying a Dragon monster with the legendary Dragon slayer’s body and sword which comes from the fact that Moriah wanted an undead army to face Kaido.

    Conclusion:-
All this makes it possible that Kaido is most probably a Mythical Zoan Dragon devil fruit eater with all links from the past of the story as well as Kaido’s introduction and their links to Chinese and Japanese mythology. Also The Buddha and Pheonix are creatures known to most people and used in common parlance and hence Dragon falls in that suit while creatures like Biast don’t. I can’t say clearly evident since this is Oda and no one, mark me no one can predict him which is why he is one of the most amazing story tellers ever.
To end it, a small trivia from the wikia page of Kaido:-

Hope the read was worthwhile and you guys enjoyed it.
