ONE PIECE GOLDSo I just saw a amazing theory on the internet, which goes deep into Mihawk’s origin and name.
We probably all know that Dracule Mihawk is based on the famous vampire Dracula.
Dracula was based on Vlad the Impaler, the holy knight.
He was a medieval Romanian Prince, whose non-stopping thirst for blood inspired the legend of Dracula.
He was a religious knight that fought in holy wars, Mihawk is also depicted as a holy person.
His religious symoblism (his cross around his neck) also connects to his powers.
I believe Mihawk’s Blade is a cursed Holy sword.
In the non-canon movie (Norowareta Seiken, Movie 5), the villian (Saga) used a cursed sword. This sword eventually took over his mind. Eventhough this is a non-canon movie, it still gives us more information about the potential of cursed swords.
We all know Zoro also possesses a cursed blade. Many people speculate about the Asura (the attack he showed against Kaku in Enies Lobby) originating from the cursed blade Zoro has.
If it was shown in the movie that a cursed blade leads to a spirit, why can’t it be the same for Zoro’s Asura?
In Japanese legends, muramasa cursed blades are considered to lead to possession of entities.
Muramas was a ancient Japanese swordsmith who, according to legend, prayed that his swords would be “Great Destroyers”. Because of the exceptional quality of his blade, the Gods granted his request and imbued them with a bloodthirsty spirit that (if not sated with battle) would drive the wielder to murder or suicide.
There are countless stories of the Muramasa’s wielders going mad or being murdered. The swords were believe to be cursed and where banned by the Imperial edict.
This could be the reason why Zoro’s Asura is a result of the Cursed Blade. Zoro’s hasnt mudered anyone with his cursed blade, so the bloodthirsty spirit took over, hence the Asura.
I believe Mihawk has a similiar thing going on with his blade.
Mihawk’s blade Yoru is a cursed blade, but of a different breed that Zoro’s Kitetsu. I believe Yoru is a holy sword with a curse to turn Mihawk in a Demon Slayer.
The blood of the blade seeks evil, hence why it is the strongest blade.
It has turned Mihawk into a religious Demon-Hunter, just like Vlad the Impaler, who he is based on.
It also makes him a figurative Vampire, since the spirit of his sword wants the blood of evil.
We have Zoro (the cursed Demon, Asura) versus Mihawk (the cursed Demon Slayer). It is a nice contrast.
Mihawk’s sword was made in ancient times to counter the demons and evil spirits that arose from the cursed blades.
The sword contains a sort of Vampire spirit that loves the blood of Demons or any evil person.
Mihawk has managed to control this spirit, just as Zoro has managed to control the Asura.
The green energy that emits from Mihawk’s slashes represent the holy aura of the sword spirit.
Many people also think that Cavendish has a cursed sword, which mades him transform into Hakuba. Just like Zoro who can transform in Asura.
This is why I think that Mihawk also has a potential transformation.
I think Mihawk’s transformation will make him look much more like an Vampire. I believe he will get wings, just like Vampires have bat wings. This also goes in harmony with his Hawk Eyes (hence his nickname). Those Eyes could be some foreshadowing of him being able to fly. So the wings could be possible.
Mihawk also has an coffin on his raft which we saw in the Baratie Arc. This also represents his Vampire form, because Vampires sleep in coffins.
Lastly, the Vampire spirit would also explain why Mihawk lives in such a dark place. It looks alot like the castle of Count Dracula, hence the Vampire spirit.
