Straw Hats & Gulliver’s Travels Theory

In the novel of Jonathan Swift, Lemuel Gulliver travelled by boat to fantastic islands.

There are a lot of similarities between the 4 Gulliver’s travels and the Strawhat’s travels :

Travel 1 of Gulliver : Island of Liliput <=> Green Bit

• This is an extract when Gulliver came to Liliput for first time : “I found my arms and legs were strongly fastened on each side to the ground ; and my hair, which was long and thick, tied down to the same manner. ” after that he perceived 6-inch (=15.24 cm) humans wearing weapons over his body. They are the inhabitants of Liliput.

Do you remember when Robin came to Greenbit for first time ? I put a video of her arrival just below.

• But then Gulliver become the favourite of the Court of Liliput. It was the same thing for Usopp in Green Bit

• Liliput had conflicts with the neighbour island and Gulliver helped them to win the war. Usopp helped Green Bit during their war against the neighbour island Dress Rosa.

From now it becomes difficult to relate the similarities between Usopp’s travels and Gulliver’s travels because we just can have speculations about Usopp’s travels. I focus on Usopp because he has particular links with the Tontattas and with the Giants. Moreover, him and Mr.Gulliver are considered to be liars in their own stories.

Travel 2 of Gulliver : Island of Brobdingnag <=> Elbaf

• Brobdingnag in Gulliver’s travels and Elbaf are both islands populated by Giants. Luffy had planned to go to Elbaf.

• I think an other similarity could be the fact than the Giant King in Gulliver disagred with the British Government. In One Piece, we saw the World Government had lie to some Giants of Elbaf.

Travel 3 of Gulliver : Islands of Balnibarbi and Laputa <=> Vegapunk, Uranus and Mariejoie ?

• In Gulliver’s travels, Laputa is a flying island thanks to a magnetism system. Laputa have actually a huge weapon system able to besiege a city. Laputa also cans move itself by flying.

For this reason, it makes me think about the Ancient Weapon Uranus in One Piece. There are some theories about the thing Capone met when he came to the New World is actually Uranus.

For my part, I think it could be and I think this thing is like a giant magnet because it seems to have attracted several island and then it attract the ship of Capone. In One Piece, the islands have a magnetism field used for Log and Eternal Pose. And there are a lot of huge cannons imbedded in the Capone’s Ship. Cannons use to be in metal and metal uses to be attract by magnets. I think Capone’s crew had just jump overboard to escape the magnet.

• But Laputa also have similarities with Marijoie because their inhabitants are the highest ranking nobles. They don’t care if other low-ranking people are starving, they are always studying and they are isolated from the rest of the World.

• Balnibarbi is island below Laputa. This is an island of scientists who leads crazy and useless experiments. Moreover, the funds used for the science make the people very poor.

I don’t know if there are so much links with One Piece, except the fact the Strawhats will probably meet Vegapunk.

Travel 3 bis of Gulliver : Islands of Glubbdubdrib and Luggnagg <=> Rought Tell and Gorosei ?

During the same travel of Balnibarbi and Laputa, Gulliver had gone to Glubbdubdrib and then to Luggnagg.

• Glubbdubdrib is an island where Gulliver met necromancians who allow him to talk with historic persons. By this way, Gulliver realized than the History is based on a lot of mistakes and lies.

In One Piece, the History is based on lies. People don’t know what happened during the Void Century. The “True Text History” of the Rio Poneglyph is supposed to be at Rough Tell.

• Luggnagg is an island of immortal people. But even they are immortal, they don’t have the eternal youngness. Indeed, they became very old, sick, weak and evil.

In One Piece, there are some theories talking about the immortality of the Gorosei. I don’t think they are sick and weak but they are obviously old and evil.

Travel 4 of Gulliver : Island of Houyhahoms <=> The D. Country ?

• The inhabitants are talking horses called Houyhnhnms. They are very smart and beautiful and represent the perfection. They are masters of miserables creatures with a lot of vices called Yahoos : Humans.

I think the Houyhnhnms could represent the D. and the Yahoos could represent the World Governement. Indeed, the humans are at the top of the WG.

Conclusion

There are a lot of similarities between Gulliver’s travels and the Strawhats’ travels, especially about Usopp. Indeed, we can be sure than the travels to Green Bit and Elbaf are directly based on Gulliver’s travels.

For the other trips, we can just do some speculations or theories. It’s obvious the story of Usopp and of the Strawhats will be different than Gulliver’s story but I showed you some similarities between their stories.
